Moving Apartments in Israel: What It Really Costs (2026)

A typical in-city apartment move in Israel costs ₪1,460–₪1,660 for a 2-room apartment and ₪2,150–₪2,450 for a 3-room (2-bedroom) apartment, per the HovalotPlus price index. Distance, floors without an elevator, a lift crane and packing service raise it from there. Here is what actually drives the price — and how to avoid paying the "new immigrant premium".

Typical prices by apartment size (2026)

Move sizeTypical range
Single item (e.g. a couch)₪470–₪540
Studio₪940–₪1,070
2-room apartment (1 bedroom)₪1,460–₪1,660
3-room apartment (2 bedrooms)₪2,150–₪2,450
4-room apartment (3 bedrooms)₪2,800–₪3,200

Ranges assume a same-city move with an elevator on both sides and no extras — computed from the same engine behind our Hebrew price calculator. An estimate is a starting point, never a final price: the final quote is confirmed with the mover for your specific move.

What raises the price

  • Floors without an elevator — Israeli walk-ups are common in older buildings; each floor adds real labor cost.
  • Lift crane (מנוף) — when a closet or couch cannot fit the stairwell. In dense cities the crane may also need a municipal permit to block the street.
  • Distance — Tel Aviv → Jerusalem costs meaningfully more than a move within the same city.
  • Packing service — full packing is a significant add-on; packing yourself is the single easiest saving.
  • Timing — July–August adds roughly 12–25% and the month's edges (25th–5th) add roughly 10–20%, because leases in Israel overwhelmingly turn over then. Flexible mid-month dates are the discount nobody advertises.

Three rules that protect you (especially as an oleh)

  1. Everything in writing. Israeli consumer-protection law requires a business to disclose clearly what a paid service includes — a WhatsApp message with the itemized quote counts. See the Consumer Protection and Fair Trade Authority (Hebrew).
  2. Ask about insurance before, not after. Standard contents policies often limit coverage for cash, jewelry and documents — carry those yourself. Insurance in Israel is regulated by the Capital Market, Insurance and Savings Authority (Hebrew).
  3. Compare at least two quotes. The spread between quotes for the identical move is routinely hundreds of shekels. That is the entire reason this service exists.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to move a 3-room apartment in Israel?

A standard 3-room (2-bedroom) move within the same city typically runs ₪2,150–₪2,450, based on the HovalotPlus price index for 2026. Long distance, high floors without an elevator, packing service or a lift crane raise the price from there.

What makes a move in Israel more expensive?

The big four: distance between cities, floors without an elevator, a lift crane (מנוף) when furniture cannot fit in the stairwell, and full packing service. Timing also matters: July–August adds roughly 12–25%, and the last/first days of the month add roughly 10–20%, because demand peaks.

Do Israeli movers speak English?

Many crews manage basic English, but quotes and contracts are usually in Hebrew. HovalotPlus coordinates the quote for you, so you can handle everything in English over WhatsApp and we deal with the movers in Hebrew.

Should I get the price in writing?

Always. Israeli consumer-protection rules require businesses to disclose clearly what a paid service includes. Get the final quote in writing (WhatsApp counts), listing floor, crane, packing and any special items — that is what prevents surprise charges on moving day.

When is the cheapest time to move in Israel?

Mid-month, mid-week, outside July–August. The same move can cost noticeably less on a Tuesday on the 15th than on a Friday at the end of August — that is real demand pricing, reflected in the HovalotPlus index.
